Femi Aderibigbe-Kwame On The State Of The Nation (A Must Read)

The present state of Africa’s most populous nation, Nigeria is just not a worry for economists and those within the financial corridors or government in general, it has become a major concern to virtually everyone who works hard to earn a decent living 24/7 all through the year.

It is, therefore, not surprising to come across post from various forward-thinking individuals within the society operating from different sectors of the Nigerian economy. One of such, who took to social media to express his concern for a viable and self- sufficient buoyant Nigerian economy, is the versatile media practitioner, Femi Aderibigbe popularly known as Kwame, CEO of Nigezie TV

Culled from his Facebook page, “Brilliant analysis laced with great humor, couldn’t have put it better if I had a week to prepare. I have always pointed out that our “elites” are mostly parasitic and opportunistic in nature, adding no real value and mostly just round tripping money from account to account without creating wealth or employment.

In other parts of the world, the elites identify areas of need and invest in meeting those needs, this has helped create jobs and build their economies, but here, we import shoes and bags from Italy, cars from America, household items from China, wine and spirits from Europe, toothpicks from God knows where and many more! Sadly, these are the people that easily access bank loans, as bankers want to put their money into ventures with 3-6 months timelines these days.

We have all mastered the art of living above our means and keeping up appearances, buying things we really don’t need, just to impress the next man and we wonder why the dollar is in free fall mode at the moment. The more I think about it, the more I notice that there is no Dangote product that retails for 5 thousand naira, but he is the richest man in Africa. I also observed that Baba Ijebu’s most loyal customers bet less than 2k and the man rakes in billions of Naira monthly. Therein lies the way forward, the return to true enterprise and departure from our current unsustainable “growth”.

Thank God the Reggae has ended and the blues is in full blast now! Finally, hardwork will count for something again in Nigeria and innovations and entrepreneurial zeal will compete effectively with political connections once again.

God bless us all!”
