More On The Death Of General Yushau Abubakar

The country still mourning the death of another Nigerian hero, Major General Yushau Mahmood Abubakar, who died in a road accident along Maiduguri-Damaturu Road on Tuesday, March 8, 2016. Gen. Abubakar was the one who spare-headed the war against Boko Haram under the present government.

Abubakar was the Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole before his recent deployment to Army Headquarters, Abuja. The road accident also involved the Acting General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Brigadier General MSA Aliyu who sustained some injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

The Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Usman Kukasheka has confirmed this development. Although details are still sketchy as at time of going to press, however this accident occurred barely 48 hours after Nigeria lost a minister, late James Ocholi, his wife and son in a ghastly car accident along Kaduna-Abuja expressway and 24 hours after the deputy Gov of Yobe state almost lost his life in yet another car crash along Kaduna-Kano road.

In Bauchi also, an accident occurred 18 kilometers on the Bauchi-Jos Road. It was learnt that the accident happened about 10:46 pm at Buzaye village. Police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed confirmed the crash, “The accident occurred when a truck heading for Jos from Bauchi collided head-on with passenger bus from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The bus caught fire and the passengers were burnt beyond recognition. The truck is registered as XC-675-BAU and the bus BAU-148-XR. It carried 18 passengers. The bodies have been deposited at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital mortuary.”

Mohammed said two victims were identified as the bus driver, Alhaji Adamu Maijama’a, 45, who lived at Jahum in Bauchi, and Yahaya Umar, 41, who also lived in Bauchi. He said: “A police patrol team attached to the GRA Division and officials of the fire service from Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP) put out the fire.”

These Northern roads have become a death trap to everyone and i hope the federal government investigates the causes of these so-called accidents.
