A resident of the area, Bala Ishaku, said that the incident happened on Tuesday evening.
He said that the accused, who used to sell fairly used clothes and resided in the area, allegedly lured the girl into his room with N100.
He said that a neighbour caught the man in the act and raised an alarm.
“The girl went out just like the way children normally go out to play around and sometimes visit relatives’ houses, when he lured her with money and took her into his room to r@pe her,” he said. “But luck ran out on him when a neighbour saw the time he took the girl inside the room.”
He said that the incident attracted the attention of some youth in the area who dragged him outside the room and stripped him n@ked and tortured him, before vigilantes came to take him away.
He said that the vigilantes took the man to the Dei-Dei police division where he was handed over to the police.
Our reporter learnt that the man took advantage of the absence of his wife and six children that had traveled home for Sallah celebrations and allegedly r@ped the girl .
The efforts to speak with the divisional police officer in the area where not successful, but a police officer who preferred anonymity confirmed the incident, saying that the matter was under investigation.
He said that the suspect would be charged to court after investigations were concluded.
